From abroad, call Vhi on +353 56 444 4444, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 19:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 15:00, Irish time: Vhi prints its help and support line in this international form. For a medical emergency while you are abroad, Vhi's Assist service is +353 1 448 2444, 24 hours a day, from anywhere outside the USA and Canada. In our test call from a US number on Saturday 7 November 2026, the main line answered at once; after about 40 seconds of notices it offered 1 for your current policy, including payments, claims and cover, 2 to renew or buy a policy and 3 for travel or international cover.

Which Vhi number to call from abroad
Vhi's contact page gives three numbers that work in +353 form, each for a different job:
Inside Ireland the main line is 056 444 4444; Vhi uses it, for example, for group scheme and quote enquiries. Vhi also gives [email protected] as its email address.
- 1Dial +353 56 444 4444. If your phone cannot enter +, use the international exit code of the country you are in, for example 00.
- 2Listen past the notices: call recording, a request to tell the agent if you need extra support, the Central Bank of Ireland notice and 0 for underwriter and data protection details. The real menu starts about 40 seconds in.
- 3Press 1 for your current health insurance policy, including payments, claims or checking your cover, 2 to renew or buy a policy, or 3 for travel or international cover; our recording ended during that last option. We pressed nothing, so we cannot say how long the queue is.
- Help and support, Vhi's main line: +353 56 444 4444, Monday to Friday 8:00 to 19:00, Saturday 9:00 to 15:00.
- Medical help while you are abroad (Assist): +353 1 448 2444 from the rest of the world, 1800 364 9022 from the USA and Canada, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

If you are ill or injured abroad
Vhi describes Assist as a worldwide medical emergency service. It says you can contact the Assistance Worldwide Help Centre at any hour to verify your cover and confirm payment in case of sickness or accident. The Help Centre's email is [email protected].
If you have Vhi International cover, use +353 46 907 7377 instead; members in the USA can call 1 800 852 7747 toll free.
When the main line is open
Vhi gives the hours of +353 56 444 4444 without a time zone; they are Irish times. Ireland is one hour behind Poland, Germany, France and Spain all year round, so the line is open from 9:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday in those countries. It is closed on Sunday.
Vhi's offices in Dublin (Vhi House, Lower Abbey Street) and Kilkenny are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00.
