From abroad, call HSBC UK on +44 1226 261 010, the number its contact page gives existing customers abroad and lists for card transactions, payments or scams; for a lost or stolen card the overseas number is +44 1442 422929, 24 hours a day. All three of our test calls to +44 1226 261 010 from Poland on 14 October 2026 went through. When we pressed 0 in the keypad menu, an agent answered about two minutes after the call connected.

Which HSBC number to call from abroad
HSBC UK's contact page gives each group of callers a UK number and an "Abroad" number. Existing customers call 03457 404 404 in the UK and +44 1226 261 010 from abroad, and those lines are open 8am to 8pm UK time every day. People who do not bank with HSBC are given the same +44 1226 261 010 from abroad.
Existing Premier customers have their own line: +44 1226 260 260 from abroad, open 24/7. In the UK it is 03457 707 070.
HSBC also lists +44 1226 261 010 for card transactions, payments or scams when you are abroad, and asks you not to call about a transaction unless you think there has been a fraudulent card transaction, payment or scam.

Lost or stolen card abroad
On its "Report a problem" page HSBC treats two steps separately. You can temporarily block your card in the HSBC mobile app or in online banking, and if the card has been lost or stolen you should report it as soon as possible, following HSBC's instructions for reporting it. If you are not registered for online banking, HSBC asks you to phone its emergency line: +44 1442 422929 from overseas, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On its travel page HSBC also says you can call that number from outside the UK to freeze your card temporarily if it is lost or stolen.
HSBC notes that charges may be incurred when calling from overseas. We did not call this line: it is for people who need help right now.
