Fraud, lost cards and credit cards

Bank of Ireland asks you to tell it without delay about online fraud, suspicious activity, an unauthorised transaction, a lost or stolen card or security device, or personal details you gave in reply to a suspicious email, text or call. Everywhere outside the Republic of Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, it gives two lines open 24 hours, 7 days a week, both with normal charges: +353 1 679 8993 and, for lost or stolen cards or a smart device, +353 56 775 7007.

Credit Card Services from outside the Republic of Ireland: +353 56 775 7747, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00, closed at weekends. The bank prints it as +353 56775 7747.

The bank says it will never email you to ask for your online login details, and asks you to report such emails to [email protected].

Two sets of hours on one page

The contact page gives +353 1 404 4000 twice. Next to the note on extended contact centre hours it says Monday to Friday 9:00 to 20:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 18:00. Further down, the same number has Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 14:00, bank holidays 9:00 to 17:00 and closed on Sunday. If you can, call on a weekday before 18:00 Irish time, when both agree that the line is open. Our test call at 9:18 on a Saturday, before either set of Saturday hours begins, reached the automated menu, which said nothing about hours, so it does not settle which set applies.

The hours have no time zone on the page; they are Irish times. Ireland is one hour behind Poland, Germany, France and Spain all year round.

Without a phone call

In 365 online you can ask account questions securely with "Ask a Question". The bank also answers on Facebook Messenger from 9:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and on X (@talktoBOI) from 8:00 to 20:00, 7 days a week. Its webchat is available in the Republic of Ireland only, according to the page.

Call Bank of Ireland from your browser

Browzerphone dials +353 numbers from a browser tab, with no SIM card and nothing to install, and charges per minute at a published rate that you can check before you call.

Without credit, Browzerphone only allows a free trial call that ends after one minute. In our test the six options took about 50 seconds to read, so top up first. The keypad for the menu is in the same tab.
