Which number to dial from abroad
On bahn.de, Deutsche Bahn gives 030 2970 as its service number. DB's international pages show the same number in international form, +49 30 2970. It handles BahnCard, BahnBonus, bookings, group travel, passenger rights and services.
DB's contact pages do not say what the call costs. From abroad it is an international call to a Berlin landline, so what you pay depends on your provider and your plan.
- 1Start with a plus sign. If your phone cannot enter +, use the international exit code of the country you are in instead.
- 2Add 49, the country calling code for Germany.
- 3Add the number without its leading zero: 030 2970 becomes 30 2970.
Press 9 for English
DB's international contact pages say that pressing 9 takes you to English, and only on calls from abroad. The German page on bahn.de does not mention it.
On our calls, "To continue in English, please press 9" was the very first thing we heard, before the German greeting. Press 9 and a keypad menu takes you on. Without it, a German voice system asks you to state your request, "ideally in one short sentence", and says it uses AI to recognise it.
What we do not know
We did not time the wait for a person after that, because we hung up in the queue. DB's contact pages give no opening hours for 030 2970, and we only called on a Wednesday morning.
In German, we only listened to the voice system and said nothing. It asked for the request a second time and later asked whether the call could be recorded (press 1 for yes).
Call DB from your browser
Browzerphone dials +49 30 2970 from a browser tab and charges per minute at a published rate for German landlines. There is no SIM card and nothing to install, so it works from a laptop in a hotel too. You press the menu keys on the keypad in the tab.

What is the Deutsche Bahn phone number from abroad?
+49 30 2970. It is the service number 030 2970 in international form, as DB lists it on its international contact pages. On our test on 14 October 2026, all five calls from Poland went through.
Can I speak English on the Deutsche Bahn hotline?
Yes, press 9 right at the start of the call. According to DB this works only on calls from abroad. An English keypad menu then takes you to the queue.
Is the call free from abroad?
Do not count on it. It is an international call to a Berlin landline, and DB's contact pages do not give a cost. Whether you pay, and how much, depends on your provider and your plan.
Which key do I press for a delay of more than 60 minutes?
In the English menu on our test: 9 for English, 2 if your journey has ended, then 1 for a delay of more than 60 minutes or a question about an existing claim.
How quickly do I reach a person?
In English we reached the queue after about 1 minute 12 seconds. We do not know how long the wait is after that, because we hung up there.
